During the 1960’s, when marriages between blacks and whites were illegal in 16 American states, John Amos met his first wife, Noel J. Mickelson. They married in 1965. After they were married for a year, they separated. The couple had two children.
Before they were married, they had a love-hate relationship. They started dating in 1961. However, their relationship didn’t last. They split up in 1975. The divorce was finalized in 1979. The couple married again in 1982. They produced two more kids.
After their marriage, they lived in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey. They kept their family out of the spotlight.
While attending Colorado State University, they had a budding romance. In 1970, Amos started pursuing an acting career. He had a role in The Tim Conway Comedy Hour. He also played in a few films. He also appeared on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Among the many things Shannon Amos has done is to become a writer, producer, director, and the founder of Afterglow Multimedia, LLC. The company produces national television commercials for clients such as Nike, Gap, BET, and Lincoln Mercury. In addition, she founded the Sumanah Soul Sanctuary Retreats.
Having been exposed to Hollywood at an early age, she worked on many popular sitcoms. She then became an intern working for director Spike Lee. She has since executive produced many Academy Award winning films. She has also found a passion for wellness and the healing arts.
