Sister Cities
Founded in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower, Sister Cities International is a nonprofit, citizen diplomacy network whose mission is to stimulate economic development, improve cultural understanding, and foster peace through partnerships. The organization unites tens of thousands of world-wide citizen diplomats.
The Santa Clarita Sister Cities organization fosters mutually beneficial strategic alliances between the City of Santa Clarita and other cities worldwide. Its sister cities include Saraiya, the Philippines, Tena, Ecuador, and Matsudo, Japan.
The organization also acts as a cultural liaison between the City of Santa Clarita and other sister cities. This is achieved through the Sister Cities Art Exhibit, which is touring the U.S., as well as other cultural events. The organization also sponsors student exchanges between Santa Clarita and other sister cities.
Saugus High Marching Centurions
Located in the Saugus neighborhood of Santa Clarita, California, Saugus High School is a public high school that serves the Santa Clarita Valley area. The school offers a variety of Honors and AP courses, as well as basic courses. In 2007, the school’s football team advanced to the semi-finals of the CIF Southern Section Championship. In 2008, the team won the Foothill League Championship.
The Saugus High School Marching Centurions have been around since 1939, and have evolved into one of the best bands in California. For the first time in five years, the Centurions competed in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association championships. This year, they placed sixth.
The Saugus High Marching Centurions have faced many challenges over the years, and have come out on top. The team has overcome adversity, and has even been invited to take part in the Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC.
KHTS FM 98.1 & AM 1220
KBET, or KHTS as it is more commonly known, is a local radio station licensed to the Canyon Country neighborhood of Santa Clarita, California. It reaches much of the Santa Clarita Valley, as well as parts of Ventura County. KHTS is operated by Jeri Lyn Broadcasting, Inc., a division of Clear Channel Communications. The station is named for its principal owner, Jeri Lyn.
Despite its modest size, KHTS is a powerful broadcaster. The station uses about 1,000 watts of power during the daytime, and 500 watts at night. The station uses a sophisticated broadcasting system that reaches a variety of Southern California locales, including Santa Clarita and its neighboring suburbs, the San Fernando Valley, and the quaint town of Canyon Country. Aside from sports coverage, the station also provides local weather and traffic updates.
ABC30 Fresno’s digital column on Santa Clarita
Providing local news to the Santa Clarita Valley, ABC30 Fresno offers viewers local news and traffic information as well as sports news. The station also airs the ABC network programming. The station maintains studios on G Street in downtown Fresno, CA. Its transmitter is located on Bear Mountain near Meadow Lakes, CA.
The station combines local news with local sports and business news. It also provides ABC World News Tonight, which airs one hour earlier than other stations in the time zone. On weekends, it broadcasts a half hour of World News Tonight and three and a half hours of local news. The station is owned by the ABC Owned Television Stations division of Walt Disney Inc. The station broadcasts on UHF channel 30.
On the weekend, the station also airs Valley Focus, which airs at 10:00 a.m. and is a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization Made for Them. This organization combats human trafficking in the Valley. On Sunday, the station also offers a raffle fundraiser to help support the organization.
