After his death, the Juarez Cartel lost its authority. The Juarez Cartel was once a force that bought drugs and trafficked them from the United States and South America. It made $200 million to $300 million a week. However, after the death of Amado Carrillo-Fuentes, the Juarez Cartel lost its influence.
Amado’s brother Vicente took over day-to-day operations of the cartel. He began a fight for control of the lucrative Juarez smuggling corridor. In the mid-1990s, the two cartels fought for control of the smuggling routes.
Violence within the trafficking organizations erupted after Amado Carrillo-Fuentes’ death. PGR seized 60 properties in Mexico and froze $10 billion worth of Carrillo’s bank accounts.
Amado’s relationship with Pablo Acosta
Amado’s relationship with Pablo Acosta was a complicated one. After all, he was the son of a reputed drug lord. He was also the nephew of Felix Acosta, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
While Amado was a member of the cartel, he was not a pillar of the organization. Rather, he acted as a liaison for Felix and his brothers. However, when Felix started to get into trouble, Amado started to feel uneasy. It seemed that the cartel was growing too large for his uncle.

The “cell system” was the name Amado gave to his organization. It was a network of independent cells that coordinated drug shipments. This helped to prevent a cartel from being brought down in one big shot.
Amado’s smuggling techniques also included using private jets to transport cocaine across Mexico. He purchased six Boeing 727s from a bankrupt Belizean airline. Some of the planes he used had electrical problems. He even stripped the seats of the planes.
During his tenure, Amado was the leader of the Tijuana Cartel. He met Felix Gallardo and began working with him. Despite being aware of the fact that Felix had betrayed his uncle, Amado was happy to work with him.
