Her costume resembled a nun’s habit
One of the most memorable characters to appear on Game of Thrones is Septa “The Shame” Unella. She’s a septa, a woman of the seven, and a devoted follower of the High Sparrow. During her time on the show, she’s become Margaery’s worst nightmare.
The show’s most popular character is undoubtedly the evil Queen Cersei, played by Lena Headey. But there were several lesser known characters who left lasting impressions on the audience. Among these was the harridan, portrayed by Hannah Waddingham. Her role was a minor one but she did have a few big screen moments.
Hannah Waddingham is also the tallest member of the cast. She’s a mere six feet tall, with her longest sibling, Jason Sudeikis, towering over her at nearly six inches. Not that she’s complaining!
She’s also an accomplished actress and scribe. She’s been in numerous movies and TV shows over the years. From the aforementioned Wicked to the Wizard of Oz, she’s shown off her moves. When she’s not working, she enjoys playing video games and hanging out with her kids. In the game of thrones world, she’s got her fingers in many pies, including owner of AFC Richmond, a top-tier British premier football team. And she’s got a plethora of awards to prove it.
For this year’s Emmys, she’s nominated for best actress in a drama, along with a slew of other televised awards. Meanwhile, the show’s producers are working hard on the next season’s premiere.
Her torture scene
If you have ever watched Game of Thrones you have probably noticed that there have been several horrific rape scenes in the show. The most memorable of those was the one involving Cersei Lannister and her septas.
But did you know that the scene was actually waterboarded? Hannah Waddingham, who plays Unella, was waterboarded for 10 hours in order to shoot the torture scene.
It sounds like a horrible experience, but it was not all bad. Although Waddingham is still claustrophobic, she said she did not die during the torture. She also revealed that she had a safe word during the scene.
According to Waddingham, the scene was meant to be a bit more upsetting than what we see on the show. Her character, Septa Unella, was supposed to be raped by the Mountain. However, the showrunners changed the scene at the last minute, after receiving negative audience feedback.
After shooting the scene, Waddingham sought therapy to deal with her fears. Now she is willing to speak out about her experience. She recently opened up about her time on the set during Collider Ladies Night.
For a while, Waddingham said that she had assumed that she would have to be waterboarded to shoot the torture scene. That was until her director asked her if she was fine. Instead of smiling, she told him she was not.
Her friendship with Lena Headey
The cast of HBO’s fantasy series “Game of Thrones” had a friendly bond. Despite the show’s intense and often brutal plot lines, the characters remained close in real life. One of these relationships included Hannah Waddingham and Lena Headey. Now the pair have reunited for a special project. They talked about their “Thrones” moments, their friendship, and what makes them tick.
Waddingham recently appeared in Apple TV+’s hit series “Ted Lasso.” She plays Rebecca Welton, the owner of AFC Richmond. Her character is complicated and complex. But she also develops a strong relationship with Jason Sudeikis.
Although the show is currently airing its second season, it’s possible the series will wind up after the third. However, the cast of Ted Lasso has managed to win over the hearts of viewers. It’s also nominated for an Emmy.
At the upcoming 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, Headey will be nominated in the Best Actress in a Drama Series category for her role as Cersei Lannister. Meanwhile, Waddingham is nominated for her role as Rebecca Welton.
As of now, Waddingham has one tangible reminder of her time on “Thrones.” She plays a role in the upcoming movie Garfield. According to a report, her character will be in the dark recesses of space. In the film, she disguises her agenda. And it’s not difficult to see why she might be a formidable opponent.
