Who Founded the NAHN?

Dr. Ildaura Murillo-Rohde was an American Nurses Association member and founder of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN). She specialized in psychiatric nursing, and was born in Panama. After a number of jobs, she learned that there were few Hispanic nurses in the predominantly Hispanic city of San Antonio. NAHN’s purpose
The SDNAHN is governed by a Board of Directors and Executive Board. The Board meets twice a year and elects officers. The Board members serve without compensation but may receive reimbursement for expenses. The Board of Directors includes the President, who shall preside over all meetings of the general membership and serve as ex-officio member of the Nominating Committee. The Board elects officers each fall. In addition to officers, SDNAHN has a Nomination Committee and Executive Board.
The purpose of the NAHN is to serve the Hispanic nursing community, promote health care awareness and access, and provide a forum for Hispanic nurses. The organization also provides nursing students with professional advocacy and mentorship. The organization maintains a scholarship fund to provide financial aid for nursing students and professionals who wish to pursue a doctorate degree in nursing.
