Neil Diamond Musical 'A Beautiful Noise' Announces Broadway Premiere

The Neil Diamond musical A Beautiful Noise will finally arrive on Broadway this fall, Deadline reports.

The show will begin previews Nov. 2 at the Broadhurst Theatre, with opening night scheduled for Dec. 4. Producers Ken Davenport and Bob Gaudio noted that the show’s premiere nearly coincides with the 50th anniversary of a series of concerts Diamond performed at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in Oct. 1972.

Prior to its Broadway arrival, A Beautiful Noise will debut with a four-week limited engagement at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre, June 21 through July 17. The cast for that run includes Will Swenson, Mark Jacoby and Robyn Hurder, and Linda Powell; Jacoby will portray Diamond in the present, while Swenson will play the singer-songwriter as a young man. (A Broadway cast will be announced soon.)

Of the Boston premiere, Diamond said in a statement last year, “I’ve had the joy of coming to Boston on countless occasions, but one of the most special was my 2013 trip to Fenway where I had the honor of being part of a moment of relief, unity, strength, and love. Next summer, when A Beautiful Noisehas its first performance at the Emerson Colonial Theatre, and we’re all able to safely be in the same space together, experiencing the thrill of live theater, I imagine those same emotions will wash over me and the entire audience. Relief… Unity… Strength… Love… I can’t wait to share that experience.”

Four-time Tony Award nominee Steven Hoggett (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,Once,Black Watch) will choreographA Beautiful Noise, joining four-time Oscar nomineeAnthony McCarten(Bohemian Rhapsody,Darkest Hour,The Theory of Everything), who is penning the book, and Tony Award-winning directorMichael Mayer(Hedwig and the Angry Inch,Spring Awakening).

This story was updated 5/18/22 at 11:15 a.m. ET with dates for the show’s Broadway run and some casting information.
